we should all live, guys!

laufey charles villaruz

i watched laufey’s concert in manila today, may 28th, with my friends gabby and carmen.

i spent the whole day abuzz. it felt like everything fell right into place; i didn’t have much work that early morning because america was on a holiday. just an hour or two’s worth of tasks, then i was off to bed. i didn't have to roll up to the venue half asleep.

i had brunch and then a smoothie, then i spent half the day putting my outfit together (see: looking through my mom's closet for shoes).

gabby came over with my stray kids merch (i brought bangchan with me to the concert) and we had a snack. carmen picked us up at 5:50pm and we ate at jollibee for a quick dinner. we arrived just as people were trickling into the concert hall.

the concert started at 8:30pm. a little over one hour’s worth of ethereal singing and wonderful instrumentals by the manila philharmonic orchestra. i had tears in my eyes by the end of it all.

one thing gabby, carmen, and i kept saying was “let’s all live guys” and it was said jokingly but now that i’m cooling down from all the excitement, i’m looking at how my life has been recently. there are some ups and downs, but i think i’m generally happy with where life has taken me.

i’m glad that my world didn’t end at 16, or 18, or 21—even if it certainly felt that way.

i spend so much of my time searching for the meaning in my own life; grasping at air for a reason to my existence—an answer that helps me take a predetermined path that’s not full of riddles and uncertainty.

maybe the meaning to life, or my life at least, is to watch live music with friends and go on a call with another to catch up about what ridiculous escapades they’ve been up to. maybe life’s meaning is to go out on a monday afternoon with my dog and watch as he marvels at the world as if he’s seeing it for the first time.

laufey was amazing. my friends are amazing. my life, as mundane as it is, is amazing in its own strange little way.

we should all live, guys. and we should all listen to live music a little more.

a song for you. this was her first of two songs for tonight's encore. it's one of my recent favourites.

i apologise if this seems short and all over the place. i'm still on cloud 9 from hearing her live. i can't stop rewatching the videos i took tonight, even if i have work right now.

for the curious, the concert organisers posted a few clips on their twitter here.

and yes, i have returned to my roots (kpop). let's not talk about it (yet).
