finally 25: the world is beautiful

title

after an anxious tuesday at the doctor’s, i safely turned 25 last friday. my ultrasound didn’t show anything alarming, aside from the “more than 20” little guys that come with my pcos.

there’s still a part of me that’s worried the doctor may have misread my ultrasound and brushed off my case to just being pcos. i try not to think about it.

my 25th birthday came quietly. my parents and i bought cheesecake the night before and had a simple dinner at a japanese restaurant. at midnight, my mom lit up my candle and was the first to greet me happy birthday, alongside my dog who was a little too eager to take my cake for himself. i did some work and played worldguessr with camille, then i went to sleep.

in the morning, my dad woke me up and we got dressed to run a few errands. we had the receipt for his new office chair reissued, had my taima’s omega deville fixed (and balked at the price of the strap & buckle replacement1), then we went to the chapel in time for communion and had a cheeky little lunch & coffee at hoshino coffee—where i had my 7th serving of japanese curry that week. we walked around a little before heading home.

we ordered pizza and chicken for dinner and my ninang made my favourite spaghetti. i had melon soda with my dinner. it was a simple and quiet affair. i didn’t have much work that night and watched possession (1981) with gabby.

on saturday, i had a joint party with one of my best friends, carmen. we were a humble party of ten and ate at a japanese restaurant called the underbelly. the crispy eggplant was great and so were the conversations about omegaverse and how maybe we don’t like men at all. we went to the thrift stores afterwards and i scored a top similar to one i’ve been trying to find for a while now and a cute skirt with capiz/mother of pearl beads. we went to fat cat to cap the day and on the way home, my mom (yes i don’t drive) took a wrong turn on the way to drop carmen off and so we took a “scenic route” instead of a straightforward one.

gabby and i watched kiyoshi kurosawa’s the cure (4⭐️/5 btw) to end the day.

on sunday, i had a little pizza party (again) with my family—dad’s siblings included. my dad got me two books for my birthday (above the skzoo i asked for; and another book, i think): brandon sanderson’s way of the kings and joan didion’s notes to john. my mom got me a cake pan and llaneras2, as well as holiday boxes for the baked goods i plan to give away for christmas (a little bribe because she wants me to bake for her friends too).

to end the day, i had a ramune chu-hai while playing yapyap and content warning with my friends.

it wasn’t much, but my birthday was full of things and people i love and i think that’s more than enough to celebrate an age i never imagined i’d reach.

a song as always.

re: the books my dad bought me: i initially asked for the 1st book of the tawny man trilogy, but it wasn't going to arrive in time for the birthday discount period of my local bookshop & so i looked for other books. i was torn between a few books and asked my dad to choose for me. i like what he chose since i've been meaning to read both sanderson and didion! i've actually added notes to john to my current reads (even though i usually don't read more than one at a time... sorry fellowship of the ring...)

also, michelin released their guide to the philippines & the underbelly received a michelin bib! a few other places i love to eat at received approval as well, which was very nice. i'm proudest of el poco cantina, which used to just be a small establishment by my dorm in college before they moved to their new spot! it feels just like yesterday when a couple made out in front of me while i was waiting for my food 🚬

my first full week of being 25 was full of playing yapyap with friends, watching dan and phil, reading bagginshield fanfics on ao3, and getting into f1. a fairly nice start, if you ask me (lol).

  1. it came to roughly $530, above the $300ish total repair... a steep price, especially in philippine peso (we only had the watch repaired).

  2. a llanera is an oval shaped mould (for food) that we use to make dishes like leche flan and halaya
